1896 Watering Place Toilette
This dress was inspired by the photo in John Burbidge's "Les Petites Dames de Mode" (See original photo below)
When I found a piece of lace in my stash I knew exactly what to do with it! The lace was actually not something I would have considered suitable for a miniature dress as its fairly heavy, but carefully cut up and re-pieced together the scallops made a perfect bolero. Segments of the lace also decorate the belt, neckline, cuffs and hat brim
The skirt has 11 gores and is made from a variagated turquoise blue and green striped silk, which has also been used for the sleeves. The bodice, cuffs and belt have been cut from powder blue dupione silk.
Her boater style hat is made from powder blue straw and decorated with pale apricot roses and bows made from the striped silk.
