INSPIRATIONAL SOURCES
These are a few of the movies, books and people which have provided me with ideas.
Movies
The Lady and the Highwayman is an adaptation of the novel by Barbara Cartland. Never mind the plot - the costumes and sets are exquisite! Set during the reign of King Charles II - Hugh Grant is the displaced Lord Lucius Vyne (the heroic Highwayman)
A Hazard of Hearts is another Barbara Cartland adaptation. This one is set during the Regency period. The gowns are beautiful, especially the pink and gold number worn by the villainess - Lady Harriet. One day there will be a Lady Harriet doll!
A Ghost in Monte Carlo - another Barbara Cartland movie, this time set during the late 1880's. Say what you like about the plot - the gowns are out of this world! Just look at the lovely little grey hat the heroine is wearing.
Ever After - the ball gown with wings inspired the 32" Daisy Garland I made just after this came out. One day soon there with be a 5.5" doll dressed like Danielle.
Books
Magnificent Miniatures by Kevin Mulvany & Susie Rogers - I bought my copy from the Kensington Miniature Show in May 2009 - with their autograph!
The Pistner House by Patricia Pistner - beautiful interiors! Some photographs from this book as well as Magnificent Miniatures make lovely backdrops to some of my doll photo's.
Victorian Fashions and Costumes From Harper's Bazar 1867 to 1898. Choc full of sketches of fashions from my favourite era. Available from Amazon.com.
Les Petites Dames de Mode by John Burbidge. A coffee table book with full page photographs of costumes recreated by John to fit 29" mannequins. No patterns, but he describes the fabrics he uses.
