TUDOR TEENAGER
My Tudor -style teenager was my response to a homework assignment for Dana Burton's SOLUTIONS - DRAPING WORKSHOP. We were supplied with a tutorial and inspiration photo's, but no pattern. A kit with a porcelain mannequin and fabrics such as brocade, silk, velvet and "fur" trimming was also available.
After looking at the inspiration pictures, I decided to dress a complete doll instead as the pretty slashed sleeves and cute cap wouldn't show well on a body with no head or arms.
"Meg" by Doreen Sinnett was selected as she has such a sweet expression as well as being rather flat chested. As usual, my kit was painted by Dianne Yunnie.
My version now wears a pleated chemise made of fine lawn. Bodice just peeps above her corset, while the sleeves extend to her wrists. Over the chemise, she wears a dark brown velvet corset trimmed with gold braid and gold sequin buttons.
The bottle green silk overskirt is trimmed in gold braid and is split down the front to show a stiff underskirt of bottle green brocade.
She also has shoes made of gold tissue and a tiny silk cap trimmed with pearls
